It's Monday night. I lay here typing as my sweet husband sleeps beside me. Usually I'm first to bed, but tonight, he surprised me by falling asleep early. We are both working so hard these days in our careers, but this man has much longer days than me. He wakes up around 5:30, drives an hour outside of the city into New Jersey, exercises, then heads into the office for a full day before facing the hour-plus commute home. He does this because I work in midtown, and he would rather face a long commute to let me be a quick subway ride away from NBC than for us to move closer to his job and have me commute in. He does this because he's a good man who doesn't even think to ask me to sacrifice for him. I married a good man.
Lately, I have felt so keenly aware that one day, I will look back on these times with Jared and long for them. When I'm old and gray, I or we will think of these early years living in New York City working away, dreaming about having babies and we will probably wish we could do it all over again. It's an odd feeling to already have that in my mind, but it's helping me soak up each day and embrace the insanity around us. Jared and I, we're exhausted most of the time. We both get home late at night, reheat leftovers and collapse on our sofa to talk about our day. We power through like that Monday through Friday (sometimes Saturday), and on Sundays, well on Sundays we sleep in, make a big breakfast, go to church and stick by one anothers side until it's time to fall asleep and start the crazy cycle all over again. Sundays...Sundays are the best.
So remember our love story? Well here's what happened after Jared flew into Denver for our first date and then flew home to Ohio.
I drove away from the airport that night thinking that if he asked, I would fly out to Ohio at a moment's notice to see him again. I came home and told my family all about the date. They were just so excited that I went on a date! I then drove to my friend Chelsey's to watch "The Bachelor." When I pulled up, I remember she opened her front door and yelled, "Get in here."
