Shine Those Boots

Hunter BootsMy Hunter boots have been in a sad, sad state since Hurricane Sandy. I've actually been fond of the scuffs and residue. They remind me of days spent in the Rockaways with my church. We helped residents by shoveling sand out of their basements, picking up moldy drywall by the handfuls and cleaning up what we could of the destruction Hurricane Sandy left behind.

Hurricane Sandy clean upBut it came to the point where I knew these boots needed a little sprucing up. While Hunter sells boot buffer, I'm always looking for the inexpensive (read: free) way to get things done. I heard olive oil was great for cleaning up rain boots, so I laid out an old issue of The New York Times and got to work.

Hunter Boots CleaningI laid my boots out flat and drizzled the olive oil along its surface. Then I scrubbed with a paper towel.

One down...

Halfway done

Voila! Almost as good as new.

FinishedI think if I had a few episodes of "Parks & Recreation" playing in the background and spent more time scrubbing the nooks and crannies, the boots really would look brand new. But hey, they're looking pretty good for 20 minutes and a bottle of oil!

Weekend Time

Have a terrific weekend! Looks like mine is shaping up with a museum date, goodbye party, homework galore, and finishing up my campaign nightstand! Yes, nightstand. Singular. NewYork City living as a single girl doesn't allow for much more than that. But I'm going to make sure it's going to be the nicest campaign nightstand New York has ever seen! Wait...no...too much pressure. Check back next week to see the finished product (which would mean I HAVE to get it done this weekend).

Wrote a review of ConnectedGoods.com on Gallant & Jones.  I LOVE this fair trade site.

Jillian Harris Is STILL My BFF

Photo from here.

Remember how Bachelorette Jillian Harris is my interior designer and that we are BFFs??

Well sista' friend came through for me again.

Typically Friday nights are a doozy. I'm exhausted from a week of work, usually emotionally strained and date night serves as a blatant reminder that I...well...I have no date.

Rather than sulk and sink into those depressive episodes that are only a memory away, I slather on Jilly's Hair Mask and cozy up to a favorite show or movie while it sets (this week's movie will be "The Help"). I typically have all the ingredients on hand and it's an easy way to keep my locks shiny.
